swazy*: Another Hard Hitting Single From the One and Only.

Here we are again folks it’s me, The Librarian, and I’ve got another review for you. This time with door by swazy*. This song starts off with some beautiful guitar before going into a nice hyperpop (I’m sorry should I be saying digicore??) beat. Always a fan of nice guitar loops in the genre personally, very reminiscent of early glaive, specifically astrid. I love the vocal manipulation within this song. I think it was done very tastefully and not overdone/too extreme. swazy* is another one of those artists who is very good at capturing a vibe. Even if I don’t have a word for the feeling I get hearing this song, it puts my brain in a certain place. Always a good aspect to have in a song. Is it even art if it doesn’t evoke emotion? Philosophy aside I think door is a great experimental pop single. If you’ve got a spare minute and a half in your day you can’t go wrong giving this track a listen.

ghostsocial: A New Single to Rock Your Evening.

ghostsocial is someone we have reviewed in the past. We were caught off guard by their unique take on pop punk. With pitch vocals and squashed drums, ghostsocial pulls off another classic for their catalog inside of “misery radio”. Spacey guitars with rhythms reminiscent of bands like Paramore. As I said before, the drums are squashed and cutting through the mix as hard as they can get really setting the tone to let loose and dance. This song is flawless from to back and I feel like ghostsocial really translated their vision and emotion very well on this track. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

JER: An Album To Blow Your Socks of and Teleport You to the Tropics.

Let’s get into some ska. That’s always a fun topic. A very divided one, much like country music for some reason. Specifically we are here to talk about JER. They recently dropped their debut solo album BOTHERED/UNBOTHERED, a high energy fast paced ska punk album. I’m not sure that this could get anymore classic ska. My whole body is moving as I’m sitting here listening and writing. I am personally getting big early 00’s vibes from it. JER has described this album as a means of, ‘Exploring and navigating an unjust world as a marginalized person exploring queer and black identity.’ While I am listening I would have to agree with them. These subjects are very evident in the lyrics. I would have to say this is a very high quality album. From the actual sound, lyrical content, and musical talent of the band. BOTHERED/UNBOTHERED hits every point you could want from a good ska punk album while still crossing some genre lines within it.

Eichlers: A pretty Blend of the Beach and Computer noises.

Welcome back for another dose of underground music. This time I’ve got a song that, to me, sounds like if you took Stupid Horse by 100 gecs and made a genre. Eichlers did just that, branding his music as Hyperska. This is a fairly apt title as the song combines the traditional elements of both ‘hyper-pop’ and ska. The overall quality of the track is quite crisp and clean. OK COMMUTER offers very high quality sound design within the genres, from the autotuned vocals to the stabbing highs and grimey bass breakdown. This song is worth anyone’s time for a listen. This is a perfect example of what someone can do with an outrageous idea like mixing the sounds of ska and hyper-pop.
