XYO (pronounced XO) is a Ghanaian recording artist from New Jersey. His influences include the likes Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Jay Z, Kojo Antwi, and Daddy Lumba. Recently, XYO dropped his debut album “Jungle” and the title track which, was inspired after, having conversations with friends and family about the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. As most of you know both fell victim to police brutality and the unjust system we are raised in.
“Jungles” is a tape that explores many sounds. It jumps through hoops to bring you to a conclusion with atmospheric sounds and banging drums. Every track has a great mix and quality attached with it. It’s easy to get lost in the track listing because the flow of each song is so seamless and well placed. Some of our favorites is the intoxicated “Real Talk” or the sexy “Fwb” instrumental that instantly puts you in a new world. This tape is long but does not lose your attention for a second. That being said, the tape as a whole still runs under 40 minutes and is the perfect length to dive into a new artist tonight.
