daphne di, a trans woman from southern california who with, little free time and less idea of what she was doing began, producing music under the alias of misato in 2017. Her newest ep called “bonjour”, is a project she made as a sonic escape for herself and of course, anyone else who may need it. Running 5 tracks long, this short EP feels like an entire adventure after you’re done with it. Flowing through various different sounds and influences to create a great all around collection of songs. “bonjour” the title track, is a funky mix of dance music and dream electronic. Nothing like EDM but adopting many of the same concepts and sounds as well as rhythm. All of this mixes together with high quality piano chords written to perfection. “carmen sandiego” is one of our favorites as well as, misato. It features beautiful guitar from the one and only, FLOOR BABA. The rhythm and drums are so intoxicating and submissive that you’ll be dancing before your brain can even process it. Towards the end of the track we get a whole different sound with a break down. The drums take on more of a trap influence and the beat becomes mind numbing with hats hoping around in a tight sequence and the spacious vocal samples in the background. This EP is much more than a collection of songs. This EP explores different worlds and influences to create a well polished and thought about sound. We see a very big future for the genius that is misato. We hope you’ll take a moment to appreciate the hard work and effort as well as the, musical logic put into this tape.
