The Librarian: 10 Experimental Pop Artists to Watch.

Hello, I am The Librarian. I will be popping in and out of Lemon Radio from time to time to bring you some artists/songs to tap into. These artists will range from damn near the bedrock of the underground scenes, to maybe some artists more towards the surface. These lists will be in no particular order other than when they came to mind. All I ask of you, The Reader, is to open your mind and give these artists a solid listen.

To start off I have a list of experimental pop artists. This is a hot topic on this blog and in the underground in general. I’ve chosen these artists based on nothing in particular other than I thought they were fresh.

byrxn: OSTs Reimagined in Gold.

byrxn is a 28 year old producer from the San Fernando area. He found his passion for music production from OSTs from TV shows and video games. byrxn hears and appreciates the depth and master work that goes into this OSTs. Feeling like sometimes, OSTs may be over looked; byrxn uses his production skills to sift through his favorite OSTs and make fun remixes with them. With a taste ranging from earlier 8-bit fighters to the grandiose soundtracks attached to Family Guy, byrxn finds a jingle in all of them. byrxn had a small spark of inspiration and made a great mashup with a verse from Baby Keem over “Let’s Go to the Hop” by Ron Jones. From then on byrxn was delighted with the idea of OST remixes and he has been working on his own remix tape of one of his favorite OSTs, “Metal Gear Solid”. Hoping to finish up a 5-track tape for MGS pretty soon, byrxn plans on moving onto “Resident Evil 2” and then “Street Fighter III”. His sound takes on a more hip-hop or house oriented sound but, he says you never really know when you’re messing with samples. Linked below is byrxn’s Baby Keem remix on Soundcloud. If you love “Trademark USA” then you will love this new hard hitting take on the song.

zenas.: Enter the Villain Arc.

zenas is back with yet another great collection of songs. “villain arc” is 10 track album from multi-instrumentalist and soulful voice, zenas. Someone we’ve taken a great deal of liking to throughout the years of hearing angelic vocal runs and groovy R&B influenced singles. His newest tape is no exception as we find zenas at his best when it comes to songwriting and harmony. “the fall” starts us off perfect as zenas takes it slow with angelic harmonies floating around in the background. Once you start to get deeper and deeper into the track list, you can find more and more connections to the trilogy by The Weeknd. Even though the sounds are similar, zenas does a great job of molding his own sound and only taking that influence so far. Never once does he come off as a clone but, more of a student finishing up his final classes, ready to take over the world and show us all who he really is. Some of our favorite tracks would have to be “vacancy” with it’s clear cut mix and vibe-y guitar textures or “to the grave” with it’s experimental sound and structure. All though zenas sticks to his melodic songs, there is a great deal of influence and variety inside of this album. From dancing 4 on the floor rhythms to the laid back and smoke guitar singles. There something here for almost everyone and yet again zenas has made an industry standard album with little to no budget.

FaithWithFly: A New Face on the Scene.

FaithWithFlyy has been making music over 6 years now and he feels like now is his moment of coming up. Faith said he really had to find myself to create this type of music I am now. He dropped a whole lot of music before but wasn’t truly focused like I he is now. So, his official 1st song Is finally dropping this summer with help from RahnRahn. Over the past years of making music he’s had plenty of people reach out like “Lil Raven”, a few labels, & most recently one of the island boyz reached out praising him & wanting himto join the island boyz. From his own friends hating on him to Faith cutting off even family and drugs as well as joining boxing, Faith has been working hard on bettering himself and moving into the future.
