The Great Pangolin is a modern day project with classical progressions and experimental moves. Their most recent project “Longing to Begin” is a piano album that runs a little under 40 minutes. From start to finish, you are sucked into a new environment and suffocated by piano chords and progressions of all colors and tones.
The tracks start quick and turn into a mysterious journey by the time you reach “Xylem”. They make you feel trapped inside a world of wonder while holding your hand and walking you to the door. By the time you reach “Puya Raimondii”, the track listing seems to take a slower take and introduce more atmospheric sounds to help fatten up the mix. This whole tape is a great dive into the mind of a real musicians and music. Well built and structured all around.
