_ŴⓐẕѺŴƧҜì_ has returned with the classic sound we remember covering on the last tape they released, “Romona Flowers EP”. Waz has a sound that is unobtainable for most with the tape recording vibe. This new record, “Know Yourself”, we get a crazy psychedelic sound mixed with; rough around the edges samples. All of the decisions made by Waz while creating this record, turned it out to be a specific sound that reminds us a lot of visionaries such as, The Beatles. “Red Bull Gives You Wings” is one of our favorite tracks on the tape. It starts off with this amazing guitar mix with a rattling snare hit. It develops into this beautiful and angelic masterpiece before you can even blink when you start to realize the atmospheric synths and the vocal styling. The track is full of these abnormal switch ups and double time tracks to make it even more of an old time sound. It feels like your cassette just broke and the track is finding it’s way through in all different kinds of distortions and warping. Even better that the sample came from “Band On the Run” by Paul McCartney and The Wings. The next track “a Tornado Warning Is In Effect” is a nice transition to this nice slow piano progression that really leads into “Romance In Brazil” nicely. This whole tape is just a blast of culture and distorted memories. It’s a beautiful trip to listen through and being only 6 tracks long, it isn’t a huge time consumer either. Check out Waz, a true visionary.
