Genesis Barrios was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She started studying music at age 7 at a magnet school. Barrios learned to play violin, cello, piano, and how to sing in school. She was in orchestra and, piano magnet until she went into choir magnet for high school. She started “producing” in middle school, messing around with putting clips together on the voice memos app on her ipod. in high school Barrios finally got a macbook and started using garageband to make covers and post them on youtube. She currently goes to university for computer science but she’s learned how to produce basically through watching and making youtube videos. this ep that she just released is finally something she can call her sound. Its taken her years, of recreating pop songs, then making trap beats, and recording covers and writing crappy songs to finally get to somewhere that feels like her. “It’s Been A Year Since We Met” is her newest EP. Running 5 songs long it is not much of a hassle to sit through if you’re short on time. With melodic guitars and songs about love and loss, this album reminds me a lot of something Brockhampton would produce. Barrios on the other hand has a special way of writing her songs and lyrics that, each track comes out as hers and no one else’s. Her sound is unique and lovable. We can’t wait to see what the future hold for her.
